Hematology

The Department of Hematology, Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University is one of the key departments of Xuanwu Hospital, graduates and residents.training base, and clinical trial center. It is equipped with hematology clinics, general hematology wards, bone marrow transplantation wards, stem cell collection rooms, and hematology laboratories (including blood cell morphology chambers, flow cytometry chambers, GLP Laboratory, cytogenetics room and molecular biology laboratory) ,with comprehensive and advanced diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. At present, there are 28 common beds, 6 bone marrow transplantation ward beds.

There are more than 30 medical staff and experimental technicians in the general department, including 3 chief physicians, 3 associate chief physicians and 1 co-chief superintendent nurse. All physicians have master's degree or above.

The common diseases in our department include various types of leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, myelodysplastic syndrome, myeloproliferative neoplasms, various anemia and hemorrhagic diseases, etc. Among them, the characteristic diseases in our department include senile myelodysplastic syndromes and leukemia, nerve system-related diseases (POEMS syndromes, primary central nervous system lymphoma, multiple sclerosis, ophthalmoneuromyelitis, etc). Diagnosis and treatment have rich clinical experience, and the diagnosis and treatment technology reaches the domestic advanced level. Diagnostic methods and techniques currently in place include blood cell morphology, flow cytometry, immunophenotyping of leukemia/lymphoma, karyotype analysis, leukemia cancer gene detection, HLA matching, hematopoietic stem cell culture, hematopoietic stem cell collection, and cryopreservation,and hematopoietic stem cells (CD34 + cells) sorting and flow cytometry other tests. Treatments include conventional chemotherapy, biotherapy, autologous and allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, immune cell therapy, therapeutic plasmapheresis, blood cell separation, and PICC catheterization.

Department of Hematology, Xuanwu Hospital is a unit of the municipal hospital to carry out hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and cell immunotherapy earlier. Transplantation technology has been comprehensive (has carried out hundreds of unrelated and haploid allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation),and long-term survivors have more than ten years. Collaborate with the Department of Neurology, we carry out autologous peripheral blood hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for patients with progressive multiple sclerosis and POEMS syndrome, and benefit markedly patients’ life quality. Collaborate with the Department of Neurosurgery and the Department of Pathology, we develop the systemic diagnosis and treatment of patients with primary central nervous system lymphoma, and markedly increase the correct diagnosis rate and improve the clinic outcome. Collaborate with the Department of Vascular Surgery, the application of autologous bone marrow/peripheral blood stem cell transplantation in the treatment of diabetic foot has also rescued patients’ limbs.
