Beijing Neurology Institute of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine
The Beijing Neurology Institute of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine was established in 2012. It is one of the 12 Institutes of Integrative Traditional and Western Medicine in Beijing approved and governed by the Beijing Municipal Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The scientific research is based on the Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University, the Beijing Geriatrics Medical Research Center and the National Key Clinical Department– Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Neurology Construction Project, focusing on the combination of modern etiology and pathology with TCM syndromes to solve clinical problems. The best efficacy and health economics, and the least side effects are the goals of the Institute.
Under the leadership of Professor Gao Li, the research institute has always been committed to the application and promotion of the integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine. On the basis of simplifying the cerebrovascular disease into four types, and traditional Chinese medicine theory of yin and yang for the eight-dimensional syndrome, the cerebrovascular diseases are innovatively classified into "heat syndrome" and "non-heat syndrome". We have obtained the preliminary laboratory evidence to support this individualized treatment. This classification has been promoted as a national key clinical specialty project to 30 different hospitals and departments. Based on the existing effective Chinese medicine prescriptions, a comprehensive intervention and drug development system for integrated Chinese and Western medicine Neurology was established. According to the complexity of cerebrovascular disease, a series of In-hospital preparation of traditional Chinese medicine with different syndrome types were developed, in which “Tanhuofang” and “Waifufang” obtained the national invention patent and transferred to the new medical research.
The institute has obtained 2 projects supported by National Natural Science Foundation, 2 Capital Development Funds, 2 Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission projects, and a number of bureau-level projects, participated in the national "973", "Eleventh Five-Year Plan", "12th Five Year Plan" cerebrovascular disease research projects and won the first and second prizes of the National Ministry of Education and the Chinese Medicine Association. Staffs have edited 5 scientific books, published more than 100 papers in Chinese academic journals, and more than 30 papers in SCI papers. We first proposed the application “Research on Traditional Chinese Medicine Injection according on Differential symptoms “in China, which won the second prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of China Association of Integrative Medicine.
